Install TiviMate on NVIDIA Shield TV

Install TiviMate on NVIDIA Shield TV or Shield TV Pro from the Play Store, then set up Ethernet, frame-rate matching and USB storage for recording.

To install TiviMate on NVIDIA Shield TV, open the Google Play Store from the Shield home screen, search for TiviMate, select TiviMate IPTV Player and choose Install. The Shield is a certified Android TV device, so no sideloading is needed. After adding a playlist, connect the Shield by Ethernet, and on the Pro model plug in a USB drive if you plan to record. Recording itself requires TiviMate Premium.

The NVIDIA Shield TV is the most capable Android TV box in common use, and it runs TiviMate without any workaround. This guide covers the install and then the parts that are specific to the Shield: its wired network port, its frame-rate and upscaling options, and its storage. TiviMate is a third-party player from Armobsoft FZE and contains no channels of its own.

Install TiviMate on NVIDIA Shield from the Play Store

  1. On the Shield home screen, open Apps and then the Google Play Store.
  2. Search for TiviMate using the on-screen keyboard or the microphone button on the remote.
  3. Select TiviMate IPTV Player, published by Armobsoft FZE.
  4. Choose Install, then Open.
  5. Follow the prompt to add a playlist to TiviMate with the details from your provider.

Shield TV or Shield TV Pro?

If you only watch live television, either model is more than enough. If recording matters, the Pro’s USB ports make it the straightforward choice.

Use the Ethernet Port

Every Shield has a gigabit Ethernet port, and using it removes the most common cause of buffering in one step. A wired connection is not affected by neighbouring Wi-Fi networks or by distance from the router. If cabling is impractical, connect to the router’s 5 GHz band rather than 2.4 GHz. When a wired Shield still stutters, the cause is upstream of your home network, and the TiviMate buffering fix explains how to tell a provider problem from an internet one.

Frame Rate and Upscaling

Live channels arrive at different frame rates: 50 frames per second is usual for European broadcasts and 60 or 59.94 for North American ones. A television locked to one refresh rate shows the other with a slight periodic stutter, most visible on sports tickers and slow camera pans.

  • In TiviMate, turn on AFR (auto frame rate) in the playback settings so the app asks the Shield to switch refresh rate to match each stream.
  • On the Shield, the display settings also offer a match-content-frame-rate option. Use one method, not both, and keep whichever switches without a long black pause.
  • AI upscaling lives in the Shield’s display settings. It is worth leaving on for HD channels on a 4K screen.

Set Up Storage for Recording

Recording is a TiviMate Premium feature and needs somewhere to write large files.

  1. Plug a USB drive into one of the Shield TV Pro’s ports. A powered hard drive or SSD is better than a small flash stick for long recordings.
  2. When the Shield asks how to use the drive, keep it as removable storage so the files stay readable on a computer.
  3. In TiviMate, open the recording settings and choose the drive as the recordings folder.
  4. Start a short test recording and play it back before relying on a scheduled one.

The step-by-step process, including scheduling from the programme guide, is in the IPTV recording guide. Remember that a recording uses one connection on your subscription for as long as it runs; the connections guide explains why that matters when someone else is watching.

Shield-Specific Problems

  • No picture on some channels after a Shield update. Switch the decoder for that channel between hardware and software from the player’s options.
  • A black pause on every channel change. That is the television re-syncing after a refresh-rate switch. Turn AFR off if the pause bothers you more than the judder did.
  • The drive is not offered as a recording folder. Reconnect it, confirm it appears under the Shield’s storage settings, and reformat it there if it is not recognised.
  • An error number instead of a picture. Look it up in the TiviMate error codes guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is TiviMate in the Play Store on NVIDIA Shield?

Yes. The Shield TV is a certified Android TV device, so TiviMate IPTV Player appears in the Google Play Store and installs directly. No sideloading or Downloader code is needed.

Which Shield model is better for TiviMate?

Both the tube-shaped Shield TV and the Shield TV Pro play live channels equally well. The Pro adds two USB ports and more internal storage, which matters if you want to record programmes to a USB drive. The standard model has a microSD slot instead of USB ports.

Can TiviMate record to a NAS on the Shield?

The Shield can mount a network share from its storage settings, and TiviMate Premium lets you choose the folder recordings are saved to. If the mounted share appears in the folder picker you can record to it. A drive plugged directly into the Shield Pro is the simpler and more dependable option.

Does AI upscaling work with IPTV channels?

The Shield's AI upscaling is applied by the device to video below 4K and works with most apps, TiviMate included. It sharpens a 720p or 1080p channel on a 4K television, but it cannot repair a stream that is heavily compressed at the source.
