One of the most powerful features of IPTV is the ability to record live TV — just like a cable DVR but without the monthly rental fee. TiviMate Premium includes full DVR functionality: record while you watch, schedule recordings from the EPG, and store content on any USB drive.
What You Need to Record IPTV
TiviMate Premium
The recording feature is exclusive to TiviMate Premium. Unlock it via the TiviMate Companion app ($4.99/year).
USB Storage Device
A USB flash drive (32GB minimum, 128GB+ recommended) or USB external hard drive. Must be plugged into your streaming device.
Compatible Device
Amazon Firestick 4K/4K Max (requires OTG adapter), Fire TV Cube, NVIDIA Shield, or any Android TV box with a full-size USB port.
Active IPTV Subscription
You need an active Tivimate subscription with Xtream Codes or M3U access to record live channels.
Method 1: Record IPTV with TiviMate (Recommended)
Step 1: Set Up Your USB Storage
Connect your USB drive to your streaming device (use an OTG cable for Firestick).
If prompted, format the drive for media storage (this erases existing content).
In TiviMate, go to Settings → General → Recording path.
Select your USB drive from the list and tap Save.
Step 2: Record a Live Channel
Open TiviMate and navigate to the channel you want to record.
While watching, press the Menu button on your remote (three horizontal lines).
Select 'Record' from the menu — recording starts immediately.
A red recording indicator appears in the corner of the screen.
Press Menu → Stop Recording when you're done, or let the program end.
Step 3: Schedule Recordings from the TV Guide
Go to the TV Guide (EPG) in TiviMate.
Browse to a future program you want to record.
Long-press (hold the OK button) on the program.
Select 'Record' or 'Set Reminder + Record' from the options.
TiviMate will automatically start recording when the program begins.
Step 4: Watch Your Recordings
From TiviMate's main menu, navigate to 'Recordings'.
Browse your recorded content organized by date and channel.
Select any recording to play it back with full fast-forward and rewind controls.
Delete recordings you've watched to free up USB storage space.
Method 2: Record IPTV on PC with VLC
You can record IPTV streams on Windows or Mac using VLC Media Player — it's free and captures any M3U stream directly.
Open VLC on your PC and go to Media → Open Network Stream.
Enter your IPTV M3U URL or individual stream URL.
Instead of clicking Play, click the dropdown arrow next to Play and select Convert.
Choose your output format (MP4 recommended) and set a destination file path.
Click Start — VLC streams and records simultaneously.
Stop VLC when you're done to complete the recording file.
Storage Requirements for IPTV Recording
| Quality | GB per Hour | 32GB holds | 128GB holds |
|---|---|---|---|
| SD (480p) | 0.5 GB | ~64 hours | ~256 hours |
| HD (720p) | 1 GB | ~32 hours | ~128 hours |
| Full HD (1080p) | 2 GB | ~16 hours | ~64 hours |
| 4K UHD | 6 GB | ~5 hours | ~21 hours |
We recommend a 128GB USB 3.0 drive as the minimum for regular recording. An external USB SSD gives the best performance for 4K recordings.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you record IPTV on a Firestick?
Yes, with TiviMate Premium and an OTG cable + USB drive. The standard Firestick needs an OTG cable to connect USB storage. The Fire TV Cube has a full-size USB port built in.
Does TiviMate Premium have a DVR?
Yes. TiviMate Premium includes full DVR recording — live recording, EPG-scheduled recordings, and a recordings library. You need USB storage connected to your device.
What is the best USB drive for IPTV recording?
A USB 3.0 flash drive (128GB+) from Samsung, SanDisk, or Kingston works well. For 4K recording, a portable USB SSD like the Samsung T7 delivers faster write speeds and more reliable performance.
Can I record two channels at once?
TiviMate Premium supports recording multiple streams simultaneously if your IPTV subscription allows multiple connections. Check your subscription plan for the number of simultaneous streams allowed.
